The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) community now has modern self-return equipment, designed to facilitate the delivery of bibliographic copies and extend the hours for this procedure. The service will be available from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., allowing users to return books outside regular business hours.

“This self-return machine seeks to streamline the process of users’ delivery of physical copies. The equipment automatically classifies books according to their floor or collection: Basic Sciences, Human Sciences, Applied Sciences or novelties from the basement and hall. Its use is simple: just press the single button on the screen, insert one copy at a time when the window opens and the green light comes on, and finally print the receipt as a support,” explained Juan Felipe Vázquez Caldas, an engineer at the Central Library.

In addition, the two recently installed self-checkout machines continue to operate. These devices, manufactured with state-of-the-art technology, allow users to check out up to four books per 15 days.

“Self-loaning is very easy. All we have to do is bring the books to the machine located on the second floor, create a four-digit PIN, enter the user code and PIN, and then register the copies. The whole process is fast and efficient,” added Vázquez Caldas.

Students, the main users of the Central Library, celebrated the implementation of the self-return equipment, highlighting its usefulness for those who have busy academic schedules.

“This machine is an excellent tool because many times we don’t manage to return books during regular hours. Now, with the availability until 10 p.m., it is much more practical,” commented Karoll Daniela Mayo Pedraza, a law student.

They also highlighted the good functioning of the self-loan machines and the renovation of the Library’s infrastructure, which has been transformed into a more comfortable and modern space.

“Self-loaning is very fast and saves us from standing in line. In addition, the Library has improved a lot: the spaces are larger and the service is getting better and better,” said Mayra Yaira López Duarte, an Industrial Engineering student.

Finally, the directors of the Central Library invite the university community to continue with the responsible use of the equipment, the bibliographic catalog and the furniture in order to preserve this space as an optimal environment for study and learning.
