This Friday, the II Meeting of the Committee on Ethics in Scientific Research was held in which topics such as integrity in research, informed consent and assent, risk management, ethics in open science, among others, were addressed.
There were lectures and discussions designed to provide researchers, professors and students with practical tools that allow them to apply the essential ethical principles in their projects, in line with the guidelines of the Committee on Ethics in Scientific Research (Ceinci).
“Research without ethics and integrity is useless, therefore, this type of event helps us to question what ethical research means, a way of treating the community, research that always has an impact on a better future and not simply on rankings or publications,” said Alicia Chamorro Muñoz, professor of the School of Philosophy.
The objective of Ceinci is to supervise that the results of these investigations are reliable, based on ethical principles and scientific criteria, that is why its specific mission is to review and endorse the research proposals made by members of the university community inside or outside the Universidad Industrial de Santander or in other institutions that request this service.
“I think this type of event is important because the ethical component is fundamental in any type of research and it is relevant that researchers take into account the principles because when we have research subjects, they have rights and it is important to be clear to do honest, comprehensive research with a positive impact on society,” said Salut Khurama Velásquez, a member of Ceinci.
One of the distinguished guests was Paula Prieto Martínez, founder and head of the Humanism and Bioethics Service of the Hospital Universitario Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá. She reflected and discussed the importance of protecting research subjects, promoting ethical practices in the scientific field.
