CienTIoN2024 brings together young researchers from eastern Colombia at UIS

CienTIoN2024, an exciting meeting of public dissemination of science, which brings together young researchers and research seedlings of eastern Colombia, takes place this Thursday and Friday at the Universidad Industrial de Santander.

Universities that are part of UNIRED are participating in this meeting: UIS, Unab, Santo Tomás and Udes.

According to Viviana Alexandra López Acevedo, executive director of UNIRED, “we are here in the second version of CienTIoN2024, which is a meeting of public dissemination of science in which each of the students of research seedlings of the member institutions of UNIRED, can socialize their research results, in basic research or applied research so that they can contribute to the transformation of society”.

“We are going to have more than 96 research posters where our young people are going to show how their research is helping so that science really becomes a transforming axis of society.”

Nicolás Armando Ochoa Hernández, one of the students who participated in the meeting, highlighted the importance of these events in their academic formation.

“I think the importance is that we bring together people from different fields, from different universities, from very different approaches, how we can move forward as a society, how we can also move forward sustainably, how we can move forward in areas such as law that we find ourselves today, engineers, judges, doctors, microbiologists. We all come together with a single approach, the environmental approach, the social approach, the prosperous approach, even the legal approach, the peace approach that this country has. I think it helps us to be able to share ideas and thus be able to provide good solutions”.

The meeting was also attended by entrepreneurial panelists and researchers, who shared the importance of research in each of their areas. Lina Fragoso, entrepreneur and digital strategist, was one of the participants.

“This type of event allows that, first, the student community can also find out how research is applied and can synergize with other environments such as business, entrepreneurship; how research is seen within companies, institutions and when you leave the role of student; it can give a vision within the profession in which you are, how important it is to work or join the research group within your process at the university.”

This space represents an opportunity for the research community of Eastern Colombia, as it promotes the advancement of science, technology and innovation (CTeI) and strengthens academic and scientific networks in our region.
