The administration of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) welcomed a new visit from academic peer reviewers as part of the external evaluation process for the renewal of the high-quality accreditation of its Master’s Degree in Hydrocarbon Engineering.
Rector’s Council Chamber hosted the interinstitutional meeting to welcome the evaluators as part of a working session focused on analyzing the achievements, strengths, and future challenges of the UIS program.
The meeting also highlighted the work being carried out by the Faculty of Physicochemical Engineering and the School of Petroleum Engineering to strengthen their graduate programs and consolidate an educational model based on academic excellence, research, and professional development.
On this occasion, the commission appointed by Colombia’s National Accreditation Council (CNA) was made up of coordinating peer reviewer Cristian Alexander Rincón Guio and academic peer reviewer Freddy Humberto Escobar Macualo, who were designated for this new evaluation process.
Academic Peer Reviewers Visit UIS Facilities
From Wednesday, September 16, through Friday, September 18, academic peer reviewers will attend presentations on the work carried out by the program and tour UIS facilities. The activities are being led by Sandra Judith García Vergara, Dean of the Faculty of Physicochemical Engineering; Emiliano Ariza León, Director of the School of Petroleum Engineering; and Fernando Enrique Calvete González.
“Today, the CNA academic peer reviewers are visiting us for the Master’s Degree in Hydrocarbon Engineering. We will review the accreditation renewal process, including all the aspects and impacts of the work we have carried out over the past few years. This is a very important moment for a program that has achieved significant results for the country. We have graduates with master’s degrees working in different parts of the world who contribute directly to the industry and to the country,” highlighted Emiliano Ariza León, Director of the School.
For his part, Fernando Calvete, Graduate Programs Coordinator at the School, explained that “the activities cover all the guidelines established by the CNA for high-quality accreditation, not only in the academic area, but also in student welfare, infrastructure, planning, and financial management. We will hold several meetings with the peer reviewers, during which we will present them with an overview of the program so that they can issue their assessment, which we will receive next year.”
Through these visits, the University is fulfilling the certification requirements established by higher education quality assurance bodies, contributing to the development and comprehensive education of professionals and to the preparation of graduates capable of responding to the future challenges facing society.
