
The Universidad Industrial de Santander, sede Málaga, continues to strengthen the capabilities of its Veterinary Medicine program with the arrival of new specialized equipment for the veterinary laboratory. These tools will support academic training, research, sample analysis, and diagnostic assistance for different diseases in animals.
The laboratory of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS), sede Málaga, now has new equipment aimed at strengthening academic practices and the processes involved in Veterinary Medicine. The incorporation of this technology represents an important step forward in the training of future veterinarians and in the development of increasingly efficient analysis procedures.
According to veterinarian and animal scientist José Eduardo Acevedo Espinel, professor in the Veterinary Medicine program at UIS Málaga, one of the new pieces of equipment is an automated hematology analyzer, which will allow analyses related to the hematological content of samples to be carried out and provide specific information that can contribute to assessing the health status of animals.
The laboratory also has equipment for blood chemistry and urine analysis, essential tools for identifying different abnormalities and obtaining information about the systemic functioning of the body. These analyses provide information that can help identify warning signs and guide veterinary diagnostic processes.


The new equipment also includes water baths, state-of-the-art microscopes and stereoscopes, which will be used in different laboratory practices and academic processes. In addition, the laboratory has an ultrasonic cleaner, designed to provide deeper cleaning of the materials and equipment used in laboratory procedures.
The infrastructure has also been complemented with a centrifuge for sample processing, a refrigerator exclusively intended for storing laboratory supplies, and computer equipment.
Another of the highlighted pieces of equipment is an incubator, which will allow experiments and tests related to microbial growth to be carried out. This equipment provides controlled temperature and humidity conditions necessary to promote the development of microorganisms and subsequently analyze them.
Among its potential applications are procedures such as urine cultures, in which bacteria present in a sample must be allowed to grow for a specific period of time to facilitate their identification.
One of the aspects highlighted by the professor is the incorporation of specialized equipment for processes related to veterinary pathology. These tools will make it possible to advance the analysis of different samples and contribute to obtaining results more quickly and efficiently, strengthening processes aimed at establishing diagnoses.
Likewise, the laboratory has specialized equipment for blood chemistry and urine analysis, which will provide relevant information about different body systems and help detect possible abnormalities based on the results obtained from each test.
“These pieces of equipment truly meet the specific needs of veterinary practice,” explained Professor José Eduardo Acevedo, who emphasized the importance of having appropriate technology to support academic, research, and diagnostic processes.
The arrival of this equipment at the UIS Málaga veterinary laboratory contributes to strengthening the Veterinary Medicine program and creates new opportunities for students to develop their skills through direct interaction with equipment and procedures used in professional practice.
