Through an orientation session, the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) welcomed the 151 new students admitted to its research graduate programs for the second academic semester of 2026.
The new members of the student community received essential information to begin their academic journey, including an overview of the University’s institutional regulations and the opportunities available to them throughout their studies.
In addition, administrators and staff from various university units—including the Language Institute, the Office of International Relations (RELEXT), the Central Library, and the Student Welfare Office, among others—delivered presentations highlighting their services and the benefits that UIS offers to its students.
On Friday, July 31, and Monday, August 3, research graduate students will continue participating in the activities scheduled as part of the orientation program:

“New members of the UIS community are encouraged to strengthen their sense of belonging to the University, which is committed to supporting their education through its graduate programs. In return, we hope they will apply the knowledge they acquire and the results of their research to help address challenges in their communities and contribute to the improvement of our society,” said Olga Patricia Ortiz Cancino, Director of Graduate Studies at UIS.
Ángela María Castro, a Ph.D. student in Engineering with a specialization in Technology Management and Development, commented on the importance of these orientation sessions:
“Learning about the services and benefits offered by a public university, especially UIS, is essential. I would like to emphasize that this is an extremely valuable opportunity for us as students because it opens the door to many opportunities that we can take advantage of.”
From Monday, August 3, through Monday, November 23, students will undertake this stage of their academic training, focused on their respective research graduate programs.
