The induction week marks the beginning of a new stage in which future lawyers will strengthen their professional training by working on real cases while contributing to access to justice for vulnerable communities.
With the start of the induction week for Legal Aid Clinic III students, the School of Law and Political Science at the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) officially launched one of the most significant stages in the professional education of its future lawyers. Throughout this process, students will become familiar with the academic, ethical, and procedural guidelines that will shape their work at the Legal Aid Clinic and Conciliation Center, where classroom knowledge is transformed into meaningful service to the community.
Located on the first floor of the Bucarica Building, in the heart of Bucaramanga, the UIS Legal Aid Clinic and Conciliation Center provides students with the opportunity to confront real legal cases while offering legal guidance and promoting alternative dispute resolution mechanisms for vulnerable and low-income populations.
According to Clara Inés Tapias Padilla, Director of the Legal Aid Clinic and Conciliation Center, this experience represents a defining moment in the students’ professional development.
“You are beginning a stage in which you stop being students and start facing the real practice of law. Here, you will encounter the challenges faced by different sectors of society, experiences that will shape your skills and connect you with complex realities, allowing you to better understand both the legal profession and the society you will serve.”
Beyond technical training, the Legal Aid Clinic strengthens students’ sense of social responsibility by enabling them to apply their legal knowledge in service of those who need it most, while gaining a deeper understanding of the role of law in improving people’s lives.
This commitment was highlighted by David Orlando Álvarez Criado, a ninth-semester Law student who will begin his professional practice this semester.
“I hope the University provides me with the tools to serve everyone who comes to the Legal Aid Clinic in the best possible way. In a sense, this is my opportunity to give back for everything that public education has given to the working class.”
Through its Legal Aid Clinic and Conciliation Center, the Industrial University of Santander reaffirms its commitment to comprehensive legal education by combining academic excellence, professional practice, and social responsibility, preparing future lawyers to meet the legal and human challenges of today’s society.
