Students from the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) can now benefit from a 50% discount on Metrolínea public transportation fares. This benefit, reinstated by the Bucaramanga Mayor’s Office, is available to those who meet specific requirements.
The discount applies to two daily trips, Monday through Friday, offering significant savings on transportation costs. Registration sessions have been arranged to simplify the process for accessing this benefit.
Key Registration Dates and Location:
Students interested in learning more can visit the registration point located at the Carrera 27 gate entrance on the following dates:
- Wednesday, December 4: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Thursday, December 5: 8:00 AM – 11:30 AM
Requirements to access the discount:
- Residence in Bucaramanga (Strata 1, 2, or 3).
- Valid student ID or proof of enrollment verifying affiliation with UIS.
- Sisbén classification up to category C9. If you lack Sisbén or it’s from another municipality, you’ll need a residency certificate, provided you live in Bucaramanga.
- Identification document (minors must also provide their guardian’s ID).
How to request a residency certificate:
- Request a letter from the president of the Community Action Board (JAC) in your neighborhood verifying your residence.
- Provide the student’s ID.
- Attach a copy of a water or electricity bill for your residence.
- Purchase a $4,780 tax stamp at Casa del Libro Total (also required for the guardian’s document).
- Submit all documentation via email to contactenos@bucaramanga.gov.co, through the Bucaramanga Mayor’s Office website, or in person at the Specialized Municipal Assistance Center (CaMe) on the first floor of the Mayor’s Office, on Tuesday, November 19, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.
