
The sports teams of the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) achieved outstanding results in the zonal phase of the Ascún Games, Eastern Region. After 15 days of competition, the university secured the qualification of 242 athletes (125 women and 117 men) for the Regional Phase, which will take place in Villavicencio from May 10 to 15.
Futsal was one of the standout disciplines for the UIS. Both the women’s and men’s teams finished in first place in their respective groups. The women remained undefeated, with a perfect record, while the men secured the top spot after racking up five victories.

In volleyball, the women’s team also shone with a flawless campaign, finishing first in their group after racking up six consecutive wins. For their part, the men’s team overcame tough matches and secured their spot in the next round.
In beach volleyball, two athletes will represent UIS on the women’s team.
Basketball also produced qualifiers, with both teams advancing to the Regional Phase after defeating high-level opponents and securing the last available spots.

In table tennis, the UIS stood out with 12 athletes qualifying (four women and eight men), while in tennis the institution will be represented by four competitors (three men and one woman).
In chess, considered the sport of science, the UIS will have 10 athletes competing in the next phase.
Finally, the women’s soccer team finished second in its group, a result that allowed it to advance to the Regional Phase.

With these results, UIS reaffirms its leading role in college sports and is preparing to take on the challenge of the Regional Phase with a large and competitive team.
