Bucaramanga will host the National University Games in October of this year and the UIS will be one of the venues for the games.
For this reason, the National Commission of Ascún Deportes, represented by members of the country’s nodes, visited Bucaramanga and reviewed the current state of the sports fields.
“A review of the sports fields was made, they gave a favorable concept, it is estimated that the competition will be from October 17 to 31 here in Bucaramanga and we will host with the coliseum where volleyball and possibly indoor soccer will be played; in the softball diamond we will have flying disc and rugby, we will also have soccer in the Primero de Marzo Stadium. The concept was good, we have to make some improvements that are normal for an event of national stature”, said Fabio Villafrades González, director of the Department of Physical Education and Sports.

At the same time, the organization in Bucaramanga is already working with the joint support of Higher Education Institutions in the capital of Santander to coordinate what is required for each sport and ensure the proper development of the National Championship, which will bring together more than five thousand athletes from all over Colombia, in addition to the people accompanying the delegations.
The qualification process for the national competition will begin in the coming days with the Zonal Phase, in which the UIS teams will compete against members of other universities in Bucaramanga and its metropolitan area.
The qualifiers will move on to the Regional Phase, which will be held in Tunja during May and will have the participation of institutions from Santander, Norte de Santander, Boyacá, Casanare and Meta; from there, the best will move on to the National Phase in Bucaramanga.
