During the last four years, the Schools and Departments of the Faculty of Health of the Universidad Industrial de Santander have led an unprecedented process of academic transformation. These are the curricular reforms of the undergraduate programs, a collective effort that has involved the constant dedication of professors, curricular committees and management teams, who have invested great dedication in meetings, workshops, context analysis and pedagogical design, with the purpose of offering a more relevant, innovative training aligned with the needs of the country.
The School of Nursing, for example, has registered more than 278 hours of effective work between weekly meetings, faculty workshops and participation in the curriculum design course offered by CEDEDUIS. Although the process began in 2021, between March 2023 and March 2025 alone, its curriculum committee has held nearly 60 meetings, demonstrating admirable discipline and a deep commitment to continuous improvement.
The Physiotherapy program has held more than 50 meetings since July 2023, actively involving professors from different areas in each stage of the reform. The minutes show substantive discussions on the graduate profile, the structure of the curriculum and its articulation with regional realities.
Similarly, the Nutrition and Dietetics program has maintained a firm commitment to educational quality, developing a rigorous agenda that has included at least 48 curriculum committee sessions since March 2023, which represents more than 240 hours of dedicated work. This process has ranged from the redefinition of competencies to the reorganization of training cycles, with the valuable support of CEDEDUIS. As a result of this collective and committed effort, the new curriculum is ready, which strengthens innovative areas in nutrition, ensuring that students are better prepared to face the challenges of the present and the future.
he School of Medicine has also stood out for its tenacity in this process. Its curricular reform has not only sought to align itself with the institutional pedagogical model, but has also involved a courageous exercise of rethinking the program from an integrated curriculum, which has meant a high level of demand for professors. Since 2021, more than 500 hours of work have been accumulated, and so far in 2025 alone there have been more than 80 meetings and close to 300 additional hours, many of them in extended hours, including weekends and holidays. This intense workday responds to the complexity of building academic activities that require the simultaneous participation of professors from up to five departments.
The School of Microbiology stands out for having been the first to complete the curricular reform process of its undergraduate program. Thanks to this progress, the Microbiology and Bioanalysis program began the implementation of its new curriculum in 2025, together with the corresponding transition plan. This achievement is evidence of sustained work and a capacity to respond in a timely manner to the institutional and educational needs of the country.
These efforts reflect a commitment to academic excellence and a culture of continuous improvement. In a context of educational transformation, this commitment to curricular renewal represents a shared vision of an innovative university, with training programs that meet the contemporary challenges in the field of health.
The arduous road traveled has been an opportunity, not only to strengthen institutional identity, promote academic dialogue and update pedagogical approaches, but also to advance in semesterization, increase the number of places in the programs and design new curricular proposals based on principles of flexibility, integration, interdisciplinarity and territorial approach, aimed at training professionals who are more critical, empathetic and committed to the collective welfare.
The School of Health recognizes and values the sustained effort of its professors and academic teams, who are laying the foundations for a truly transformative education, designed from and for the country.
