Installations, performances, sound interventions, and participatory actions are part of the new edition of the Emerging Art Salon, which brings together the creative proposals of students from the UIS-IPRED Visual Arts Program throughout October at the UIS Bucarica Campus.
The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS), through its UIS-IPRED Visual Arts Program and as part of the solidarity outreach project led by the UIS Vice-Rectorate for Research and Outreach, presents the XXVII UIS Emerging Art Salon, an edition that explores new ways of connecting artistic works, exhibition spaces, and audiences.
Since its creation in 1999, the Emerging Art Salon has accompanied different generations of students and provided a platform to showcase their creative processes. In its twenty-seventh edition, the curatorial proposal expands the possibilities of the exhibition and transforms the Macaregua Hall at the UIS Bucarica Campus into an active space where audience participation becomes part of the artistic experience.
Audiences become part of the artistic experience
This year’s call invited students to develop proposals involving expanded media, site-specific interventions, live arts, and participatory and interactive processes. The aim was to bring together projects capable of establishing a direct relationship with the exhibition space and generating different forms of interaction with visitors.
As a result, the XXVII UIS Emerging Art Salon features installations, performances, sound interventions, and participatory actions that offer new ways of experiencing and navigating art. Rather than simply inviting visitors to contemplate objects, the works activate the space and encourage relationships between audiences, artistic proposals, and the creative processes behind them.
In this way, the XXVII UIS Emerging Art Salon provides an opportunity to explore not only the outcomes of students’ artistic production, but also the questions, experiments, and creative approaches that shape each proposal.
A program running throughout October
The program began on October 3 with an academic session featuring thematic discussions addressing different perspectives on circulation and collaborative processes in art.
In the afternoon, artist Wilson Díaz led the lecture “Resolution in Collective and Individual Artistic Practice,” followed by performances and sound interventions. The day concluded with the official opening of the XXVII UIS Emerging Art Salon at 6:00 p.m. at the UIS Bucarica Campus.
Activities will continue throughout October with workshops proposed by participating students, expanding opportunities for dialogue between creators and audiences and exploring other dimensions of the works presented at the salon.
The closing event will take place on October 29 with the launch of the XXVII UIS Emerging Art Salon catalog and the lecture “Collaborating to Create: A Perspective from Editorial and Visual Practice,” led by designer Juan Francisco Carrillo.
A platform for student creativity
Through this edition, the UIS-IPRED Visual Arts Program presents the Emerging Art Salon as more than an exhibition: it is a space for sharing creative processes, activating artistic practices, and bringing audiences closer to the different ways in which students create through art.
Throughout October, the Macaregua Hall at the UIS Bucarica Campus will remain open to the public as a meeting place centered on art and as a platform for discovering the proposals developed by students from the Visual Arts Program.
The XXVII UIS Emerging Art Salon therefore invites visitors to explore the exhibition, take part in its activities, and experience a program in which the space, artworks, artists, and audiences become part of the same artistic encounter.
