UIS Ultimate and Volleyball Teams Advance to the ASCUN Deportes Semifinals

The UIS volleyball team advanced to the semifinals of the ASCUN National University Games.

The final stage of the 2026 ASCUN National University Games is underway, with the men’s ultimate and volleyball semifinals now set to take place. The UIS teams are ready to compete at this stage after advancing from the group phase and securing victories in the quarterfinals.

Flying disc team, coached by Cristian Javier Hernández, finished second in its group after winning three of four matches against the universities of Caldas, Nariño, Córdoba and EAFIT.

Meanwhile, the UIS volleyball team defeated Universidad Nacional 3–0 in the quarterfinals, earning a place in the semifinals of the national competition.

A competition filled with learning and experience

The UIS table tennis delegation concluded its participation in both the individual and team events. Néstor Uribe, Nohora Nonsoque, Anyi Núñez, Karol Rueda and María Paula Orduz represented UIS at the Rodríguez Pérez Castro Coliseum, part of the Atanasio Girardot sports complex.

The journey came to an end in the quarterfinals for the women’s futsal team. In a closely contested match, UIS faced Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia (UPTC), the current national champion, which secured a 1–0 victory.

The UIS table tennis delegation competed in the individual and mixed events at the Games.

Darwind Martínez, a member of the men’s volleyball team, highlighted the importance of the victory: “We are very excited about this new step. We are in the semifinals and getting closer to our goal. We are confident that we can reach the podium at these National University Games”.

The Universidad Industrial de Santander currently ranks ninth in the overall medal standings with 42 medals: 9 gold, 14 silver and 19 bronze.
