UIS Corre: The New Running Initiative Bringing the University Community Together

UIS Corre is an initiative of the UIS Department of Physical Education and Sports for members of the university community.

With the aim of promoting physical activity and creating new spaces for the university community to come together through exercise, the Department of Physical Education and Sports at the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) has launched UIS Corre, a running community open to students, professors, administrative staff, and alumni.

The initiative began on Tuesday, August 18, and since then, it has brought together members of the university community who share an interest in promoting healthy lifestyles, enjoying sports, and encouraging participation in the UIS Athletic Race.

UIS Corre was created with the support of Jorge Buitrago, director of the Department of Physical Education and Sports, along with professors Adrián de la Rosa and Marcela Suárez, and Jean Ríos, students in the Master’s Program in Sports Talent Development. This team is responsible for planning, directing, implementing, and promoting the running community.

A Weekly Gathering to Run and Connect

Every Tuesday at 6:15 p.m., participants meet at the track of the Primero de Marzo Sports Complex for a free and open training session. The level of intensity is low, and each session lasts between 45 and 60 minutes, featuring lessons focused on running technique, a main workout, and laps around the track.

These weekly gatherings aim to build a community around running, providing UIS members with a space to incorporate physical activity into their routines while connecting with other members of the institution.

“More than just going out for a run, UIS Corre gives us a place within the University where we can connect with others and make exercise part of our well-being. During this first month, we have received a very positive response, which motivates us to continue strengthening participation. In the near future, we hope to extend this experience to friends, family members, and acquaintances,” said Jean Ríos, a student in UIS’s Master’s Program in Sports Talent Development.

Members of the university community can join the WhatsApp group to stay informed about schedules, meeting points, updates, and upcoming activities.
