La Industrial University of Santander (UIS) central campus is hosting ‘Encontrémonos en las Regiones’, a La FM de RCN Radio program that brings its national broadcast to Bucaramanga with the participation of representatives from academia, the business sector, and journalism.
The Industrial University of Santander (UIS) has become a meeting point for the national conversation this Friday as La FM de RCN Radio broadcasts its national news program live from the University’s central campus in Bucaramanga and hosts a new edition of ‘Encontrémonos en las Regiones’.
Journalists Santiago Ángel, Juliana Habib, Fernando Quijano, and Ingrid Jaimes are part of the broadcast, bringing stories and voices from Santander to audiences across Colombia.
The visit also gives La FM’s guests the opportunity to explore the University’s academic, scientific, and technological facilities and learn firsthand about the advances being made by the UIS as a public university.
A university transforming education through its spaces
During the event, Gerardo Hernández, president of Banco AV Villas, highlighted his experience visiting the central campus and praised the environment offered by the University to its community.
“The university and the campus are truly wonderful. You can feel this desire to stay here, to come back and study. What they have been doing is remarkable, and hopefully this can serve as a good example for other universities in Colombia.”
Hernández also emphasized the importance of bringing together different sectors to address the country’s challenges and develop solutions collectively.
“To move the country forward, we have to work together. We need to reach agreements, bring academia, political sectors, businesses, small and medium-sized companies together, and seek the best alternatives and solutions for the country.”
The business leader added that there are no single or perfect solutions, but that when society agrees on what it wants to achieve, progress becomes possible.
La FM’s perspective on the UIS campus
For Santiago Ángel, journalist at La FM, the visit to the UIS also provided an opportunity to experience the spaces where academic training and research take place.
“I think UIS students are very fortunate because the campus is beautiful. It is truly a place where you feel happy just walking through it. I cannot imagine what it must feel like to study here every day.”
The journalist also highlighted the architectural features of the facilities he visited during the event.
“The architecture is wonderful, light comes into every corner, and we have seen the laboratories and classrooms. It is a privilege to be here.”
UIS brings its results closer to society
The presence of La FM also provides an opportunity for the University to share its academic, research, and outreach achievements with society.
Cristian Blanco Tirado, Vice President for Research and Outreach at the UIS, highlighted the institution’s public nature and its ongoing relationship with communities.
“As a public institution, we are at the service of the entire Santander community and, additionally, the entire national community.”
The Vice President recalled that the UIS welcomes students and professors from different regions of Colombia who participate in academic, research, outreach, innovation, and entrepreneurship activities.
“These kinds of spaces allow us to tell society precisely how we are doing things and how we are progressing. It is also a way of delivering results and responsibly providing information in a truthful and timely manner.”
Innovation goes beyond infrastructure
The ‘Encontrémonos en las Regiones’ event also featured the participation of Olga Mercedes Álvarez Ojeda, UIS Vice President for Academic Affairs, who highlighted the role of the media in sharing the transformations taking place at the University.
“The visit of the media is very important because they can witness and communicate all the innovations taking place at our university.”
Álvarez Ojeda explained that innovation at the UIS encompasses different dimensions of university life.
“Innovation is not only about infrastructure. It is also about academic programs, quality, technology, and equipment that allows us to conduct research using high technology.”
For the Vice President, the presence of the media is also an opportunity to strengthen accountability at an institution that manages public resources.
“It is a way of reporting back to society because we are a public university. We can demonstrate that we are investing our resources very well, efficiently, and transparently for the benefit of society.”
Álvarez Ojeda concluded by highlighting one of the principles promoted by the University’s administration: “Public institutions must be worthy.”
“We can demonstrate that public institutions can be dignified, and this translates into providing our students with the best infrastructure, not only physical but also technological, to support all the capabilities the University has.”
Santander connects with the country from the UIS
Through this event, the Industrial University of Santander opens its spaces to a conversation that connects Santander with national audiences and showcases, from within the University itself, its work in education, research, innovation, outreach, and infrastructure transformation.
