The UIS student orientation week began this Monday with the participation of 1,500 first-year students, who officially began their college life at the Industrial University of Santander with a program designed to help them adjust to the institution and strengthen their sense of belonging.
Eager to achieve their professional goals and become part of one of the country’s most important public universities, 1,500 first-year students began their college life this Monday at the Industrial University of Santander (UIS), participating in the institutional orientation program that marks the start of a new academic phase.
Starting early in the morning, the Industrial University of Santander welcomed the new members of the university community at the various venues set up for the orientation day. The program included a cultural performance, a welcome address by the Academic Council, a screening of the institutional video, the session “What Does It Mean to Be a UIS Student?” and the traditional UIS Tour, which allowed them to explore the infrastructure, services, and main areas of the university campus.
In addition to presenting the university’s offerings, the orientation session aims to help students adapt to university life, strengthen their sense of belonging, and introduce them to the wellness, research, cultural, athletic, internationalization, and academic support programs that will be available to them throughout their studies.

The event also provided an opportunity to learn about the expectations of some of the young people who are now beginning to build their future at the Industrial University of Santander. One such student is Ana Valentina Ortiz Martínez, an electrical engineering student, who said that enrolling at UIS represents the fulfillment of a dream she’s had ever since she chose her major.
“So much excitement, so much energy, and so many expectations. I already had a deep affection for the UIS; one of my dreams ever since I started choosing my major was to get into the UIS no matter what, because I think it’s an academically excellent university with an incredible atmosphere for studying and one of the best options for pursuing an engineering degree. In five years, I see myself pursuing my graduate studies at the UIS as well, or perhaps taking advantage of one of its partnership programs to earn a dual degree abroad. The UIS is demanding, and the standards are high, but it’s never impossible. I worked hard and succeeded, and I know that those who are on their way there will succeed too.”
Similarly, Gabriel Santiago Beltrán, an industrial engineering student, highlighted the atmosphere he encountered during his first few hours at the university and what it means to him to have achieved this goal.
“Honestly, I’ve felt great. We’ve participated in recreational activities here in the auditorium, and now we’re going to learn more about the university. I’ve really enjoyed this experience. Being a student at UIS is an honor for me because I achieved this goal through hard work and because I’ve long dreamed of being part of this university.”
