A dream day was experienced by 572 people during the graduation ceremony at the Universidad Industrial de Santander.

Applause, hugs, thanks and tears of emotion were a constant throughout the three ceremonies held during the day.

An example of this was Jonatan Stiven Rodríguez Rincón, who achieved the distinction summa cum laude after finishing his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering with a 4.59 grade point average. He is a native of Duitama and was accompanied by his parents Amanda Rincón and Wilson Rodríguez, who proudly watched as everyone in the Luis A. Calvo Auditorium applauded their son.

“It is a very great emotion and it is very gratifying because I gave the best of me and overcame these challenges. I am proudly from Boyaca, I always wanted to study in a public university and in engineering, so I researched and saw that the UIS is very good, that’s why I chose it,” said Rodriguez Rincon.

During the conference, nine young people were also distinguished with the cum laude distinction. They are: Sebastián Rodríguez Traslaviña (Civil Engineering), Laura Rodríguez Cala (Systems Engineering), Johan Alfonso Castillo Caballero (Electronic Engineering), Johan Mauricio Camargo Chaparro (Metallurgical Engineering), Rubén Santiago Giraldo Mendoza (Biology) and industrial engineers Camilo Andrés Cabrera Montaña, Álvaro Guevara Velasco, Daniel Felipe Poveda Celis and Melissa Suárez Pino.

On the other hand, five people completed their doctorates in areas such as electronic engineering, history and chemical engineering.

“I only have words of gratitude for the UIS and the research groups that welcomed me. Since 2015 I did the master’s degree here at the UIS and now the doctorate, the goal that I really did not even in my dreams I thought I would reach is fulfilled, I feel very honored to be a doctor of the UIS, “said Diana Ibarra, PhD in Chemical Engineering.

The UIS Barrancabermeja branch joined the degrees thanks to its coordinator Andrés Mauricio Montes Tenorio, who obtained his master’s degree in Project Evaluation and Management.

Each ceremony included speeches by outstanding graduates and academic authorities, who congratulated the young people for completing this stage and advised them for the new challenges that lie ahead for each of them.
