Knowledge in action: future UIS professionals explore industry in Santa Marta

UIS students on a technical visit in Santa Marta.

Students of the Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Bachelor’s Degree in Foreign Languages with emphasis in English programs of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) made a technical visit to the city of Santa Marta, in order to learn about manufacturing processes, vertical and horizontal expansion strategies, raw materials management and national and international trade dynamics.

The activity, led by the School of Industrial and Business Studies, was accompanied by Professor Juan Manuel Durán Marín, from the School of Systems and Computer Engineering. During the day, the students visited renowned companies such as C.I. Famar S.A., C.I. Técnicas Baltime de Colombia S.A. and the Nitrofert business group.

These visits strengthen the learning acquired in the classroom, complementing it with practical experiences and a better understanding of the real market environment. The companies visited represent key sectors such as the oil and margarine industry, the marketing of tropical fruits – with emphasis on organic and conventional bananas – and the production of fertilizers for Colombian agriculture.

Finally, the UIS School of Industrial and Business Studies thanks the companies for opening their doors to the students, who lived an enriching experience that contributes significantly to their professional training.
