The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) calls for awareness on the responsible use of water, a vital resource that has been misused in the multi-court sports area. The faucet that supplies water to students and the university community that uses these spaces has been repeatedly damaged, which has generated concern among members of the institution who frequent these spaces.

Students from various disciplines have spoken out to invite everyone to take care of this vital service. Ana María Cuellar, a Social Work student, stressed the importance of being aware of the use of water, stating that “these services belong to us and are for us”. She also emphasized the lack of a sense of belonging that exists in the community to take care of the resources that the university provides.

Andrés Felipe Guaqueta, Systems Engineering student, also expressed his discontent, noting that “it is sad that they damage the things that the UIS provides us, especially something as important as water”. He called for not affecting those students who do care for and need this service.

The UIS, recognized for its commitment to the integral formation of its students, promotes environmental responsibility and the sustainable use of resources. In this context, the university community is invited to reflect on the importance of taking care of water, not only in the sports area, but in all campus facilities.

Darly Juliana Cristancho, student of the Bachelor’s Degree in Literature and Spanish Language, stressed that “as an educational community we must take care of the means by which we can obtain water, especially one as important as the one that remains in the multiple courts, which on many occasions has been damaged and we have had to fill the thermos in other more distant places”.

The invitation is clear: taking care of water is everyone’s responsibility. The UIS community hopes that, with the collaboration of each of its members, it will be possible to preserve this invaluable resource and promote a culture of respect and care for the environment. The water service will be reestablished again in the university’s multi-purpose court complex, hoping that it will be used properly and responsibly.
