Conversation at the UIS addresses vicarious violence with a gender approach

Estudiantes y profesionales del Derecho en el conversatorio sobre violencia vicaria en Colombia 2025

In the auditorium of the Human Sciences Building II of the Industrial University of Santander (UIS), a seminar entitled “Vicarious violence: a look from the approach with a gender perspective” was held. This event brought together academics, students and professionals to discuss digital sexual violence against women and girls, as well as Colombia’s historical debt to the victims of this type of violence.

The discussion included the participation of prominent litigators, such as Thereza Valencia, Paola Marcela Silva Pérez and Ángela Perdomo, who offered valuable perspectives on the problem. During her intervention, Paola Silva emphasized that “vicarious violence is a challenge in Colombia, because it has a robust regulatory framework to address gender-based violence under the constitutional block”. However, she also stressed that, despite the existence of laws such as 1257 of 2008 and 2126 of 2021, which recognize different types of violence, they fall short in the specific recognition of vicarious violence.

The discussion became an enriching space for debate and reflection on the need to strengthen public policies and the legal framework regarding gender-based violence. Attendees were able to exchange ideas and experiences, thus contributing to the construction of a more comprehensive and effective approach to address this problem in the country.

The UIS reaffirms its commitment to education and awareness on gender issues, promoting spaces for dialogue that allow to make visible and combat violence in all its form
