Through Resolution 019641 of October 30, 2024, the Ministry of National Education (MEN), granted the Universidad Industrial de Santander – Sede Málaga, the renewal of the qualified registration of the Forestry Engineering program for seven more years.
In this regard, the Coordinator of the Headquarters, Deicy Dalila Delgado Diaz, said that the university has demonstrated the commitment of the program in the region.
“What we have stated in the document is what we are doing. In this process that lasted about a year, different actors participated with whom, through surveys and workshops, self-evaluation was carried out with the aim of improving aspects of this career. We are going to have a more versatile and flexible program that is in line with the changes that are generated at regional, national and global levels, responding to the needs that are arising. Our next graduate will continue to contribute to the development and to propose sustainable solutions for our forests and the different areas of the ecosystem,” said Deicy Delgado.
The Coordinator of the Forestry Engineering program, Sandra Diaz, also emphasized that the renewal of the accreditation is the result of the work done by the academic community of the program, led by the curriculum committee.
“It is a process that was carried out from a self-evaluation exercise in which the strengths, weaknesses and aspects to improve were highlighted, and that includes a new curriculum that welcomes the U21 pedagogical model, the common cycle of engineering, the provisions from the Ministry of National Education for undergraduate programs, the new trends in forestry sciences and their need to meet the challenges in the management, use and conservation of forest resources in the region and the country. Likewise, everything is contemplated in the framework of a comprehensive training that allows future UIS forestry engineers to have skills that allow them to be suitable and relevant professionals to lead and participate in many projects and initiatives for sustainability”.
The same resolution approved the curricular reform of the program (approved by the Academic Council through Agreement 215 of 2024). In this aspect, there is an important change: from 10 semesters, forest engineering will now have a duration of nine semesters, being the first program in the country with this number of semesters.
