World Health Day: “Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures”

Every year, April 7 marks World Health Day, a date established by the World Health Organization (WHO) to remember the importance of ensuring equitable access to healthcare and to raise awareness of the major challenges facing humanity in this area. In 2025, the slogan is “Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures,” focusing on maternal and newborn health.

According to WHO, each year approximately 300,000 women die during pregnancy or childbirth; more than two million newborns die in their first month of life; and around two million are stillborn. This year’s campaign calls on governments and society at large to intensify efforts to eliminate preventable maternal and newborn deaths, and to prioritize the long-term health and well-being of women. WHO emphasizes that improving maternal health involves strengthening the rights of women and girls, enabling them to plan their lives and protect their health.

In this context, the Specialized Health Unit of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UISALUD) reaffirms its commitment to the promotion of integral health and prevention, encouraging its users and the university community to adopt healthy lifestyles and to support initiatives that guarantee equitable access to quality health services for the entire population, especially for women and newborns.
