The university community of the Universidad Industrial de Santander – Sede Málaga joined the commemoration of the International Day of Forests, highlighting its fundamental role in sustainability and development.
Students of Forestry Engineering, of the subjects Silviculture and Restoration of Natural Forests and Forest Management, shone for their creativity in the activities planned for this date.
Workshops, conferences and an entrepreneurship fair were part of the day, highlighting the exhibition of innovative products derived from the forest, reflecting the talent and commitment of our academic community and graduates.

The event was also attended by a delegation of students from the Isidoro Miranda Morantes Institute and the Polytechnic School of Malaga, who actively participated in the activities and learned more about the Forestry Engineering program.
Doris Duarte, professor of the program, pointed out that for this 2025 the theme is “Forests and Food”, so the students delighted the public with various products from the forest.
“Forests are wood, fiber, medicine and also food. In them we find various ways to manage, conserve and use them. While it is true that forests play a key role in conservation, they are also key to wildlife habitat and the provision of ecosystem services. Based on this, the students are showing us today how, from their fruits and seeds, we can prepare different foods that, in addition to being sustainable, are delicious to the palate,” said teacher Doris Duarte.

Yesid Castellanos, a tenth grade student at the Isidoro Miranda Morantes Institute, highlighted the importance of the activity. “Very nice event, you can see the commitment and dedication of forestry engineering students in the preparation of food to present their ventures. Also, the talks were very interesting because this way we know more about the forests”.
Forestry Engineering and Animal Husbandry graduates also participated with their ventures. An example of this is the zootechnician Héctor Bautista, who presented his beekeeping project “Santa Abeja”, highlighting the value of products derived from beekeeping and their relationship with forest ecosystems.
