The School of Chemical Engineering of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) stood out last Friday, November 22, when it received the Rebeca Uribe Bone National Award in the innovation category. This award, granted by the Professional Council of Chemical Engineering of Colombia (CPIQ), recognizes the best degree option in Chemical Engineering developed by women or groups of women.
The team formed by students Isabel Daniela Ardila Beltrán, Laura Camila Romero Melo and their director, Professor PhD. Liliana del Pilar Castro Molano, achieved the highest score in the evaluation process, thus securing first place in this national competition.
Ardila Beltrána expressed that “this award represents a recognition of effort, dedication and teamwork. In addition, it continues to demonstrate the potential that we as women have in engineering. We would like this award to inspire and motivate to continue researching and, above all, to transform lives”.
Liliana del Pilar Castro Molano said: “For the Interfaces Research Group attached to the School of Engineering it is an honor to have been awarded this work done by women, because it was an arduous process that was developed with total commitment. I feel happy and proud to be a UIS woman”.
This recognition underlines the excellence and commitment of UIS female students and professionals in Chemical Engineering, celebrating their significant contribution to innovation and sustainable development. The awarded project, entitled “Life Cycle Analysis of the Anaerobic Digestion + Gasification System”, was developed in the municipality of Cáchira, Norte de Santander, and has not only allowed them to achieve this important recognition, but has also demonstrated the positive impact that women engineers can have on industry and society.
