UIS stands out at the Bogota International Book Fair

At the UIS stand, visitors to Filbo can purchase the books published by UIS editions.

The Universidad Industrial de Santander continues to make its presence felt at the Bogota International Book Fair 2022 (Filbo), thanks to the wide variety of books on offer at stand 124 in pavilion 3, on level 2 of Corferias. Researchers and authors of the publications will also be present at the fair.

“The stand has become the meeting point for the UIS community that attends this event. It is very exciting to see the joy of graduates, retirees, teachers and other people who, at some point, have had any contact with the University, who come, share and express that they feel closer to the campus,” says Omaira Alvarado, a professional from the UIS Publications Division.

Among the highlights of today’s events, the book ” Scientists in Colombia: a gap that does not give truce”, by UIS professors Claudia Cote, Alexandra Cortés, Carolina Romero and Martha Peña, will be presented to the public at the Ecopetrol Great Hall in Corferias at 6:00 p. m., who will lead a discussion on the subject of the book that exposes the difficulties that women who work in science must overcome.

“We tried to contribute through a statistical analysis of all the figures we found in this regard to recognize the situation of women scientists in Colombia. In Colombia we see that 62% of the people dedicated to science are men compared to 38% of women,” says author Claudia Patricia Cote Peña.

Among the publications that were presented at the Filbo is the collection “Regional Studies on Human Rights”, publications that are the product of meritorious theses of the Master’s Degree in Human Rights of the School of Law and Political Science of the UIS.

The presentation was given by professors Javier Acevedo Guerrero and René Álvarez Orozco, accompanied by graduate student Catalina Ortega Zambrano, author of the book ” Victims of antipersonnel mines in Santander, Colombia. An approach from community-based rehabilitation”.

En la sala José María Vargas Vila de Corferias, se realizo la presentación de los tres nuevos libros de la colección “Estudios Regionales en Derechos Humanos”.

On Sunday, May 1, there will be two more presentations under the Ediciones UIS seal. At 3:00 p. m. A discussion around the book “Beyond austerity. The untold story of Syrian-Lebanese immigrants in Colombia”, by author Ana Milena Rhenals, co-edited with the University of Magdalena.
