UIS professor new president of the Colombian Association of French teachers

The Colombian Association of French Teachers (ACOLPROF) elected Edga Mireya Uribe Salamanca, professor at the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS), as its new president, in a decision taken during the Biennial Ordinary General Assembly.

Uribe Salamanca’s election was received with enthusiasm among her colleagues and the country’s educational community.

With an outstanding academic and professional career, Edga Mireya Uribe Salamanca has a broad and solid background in the field of didactics of languages and cultures. She holds a PhD in Didactics of Languages and Cultures from the Sorbonne Nouvelle-Paris 3 University (France) and a Master’s degree in Didactics of French as a Foreign Language from the Universidad del Rosario (Colombia). Throughout her career, she has worked as a full professor at UIS, where she has also served as director of the School of Languages in six different terms (2004-2007 and 2015-2021). Her leadership includes responsibility for the DILECPOLE (Didactics of Languages, Cultures, and Linguistic and Educational Policies) seedbed, part of the GLOTTA research group at the UIS.

As an active member of the educational community in Colombia, Professor Edga Mireya has participated in international networks such as EnRedELE, Colifri, FIPF and ACOLPROF, where she served as vice-president from 2022 to 2024. She is also an active member of the Collective of researchers CIPIF, focused on multilingualism, interculturalism and Francophonie in Colombia, with whom she has produced the Cartography of the French teaching landscape in Colombia, published by Ediciones UIS in 2022, which is currently being updated. In addition, Professor Uribe has represented teachers in the Academic Council of the UIS in the 2014-2015 and 2021-2024 terms.

The ACOLPROF board was formed by professors Germana Soler (Universidad de Caldas), Mónica Rolong (Universidad del Atlántico), Fabio Arismendi (Universidad de Antioquia) and Sandra Bustos (Universidad de La Salle), accompanied by four members (Jorge Herrera, Universidad del Quindío; Yurany Giraldo, UCEVA, and Jenny Muñoz, from Universidad Pedagógica Nacional. The purpose of this election is to strengthen the role of ACOLPROF in the promotion of French teaching in Colombia, contributing to the expansion of the French language and French-speaking cultures in the country, with the valuable support of the International Federation of French Teachers (FIPF), the French Embassy in Colombia, other French-speaking embassies and ministries of education, such as Québec, the Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Ministry of Education.
