The volleyball action in the South American School Games began with a 3-2 victory of the Colombian women’s team against Peru.

There, the UIS Coliseum is the home of this discipline in both the men’s and women’s branches, thus becoming one of the venues of the most important events in this category.

“We are happy to start on the right foot and win this difficult match, I feel happy to represent the flag of Colombia. This represents a lot of joy and it is a dream to represent my country, the coliseum is great, I liked it a lot and the facilities are cool,” said Daniela Ospina Arboleda, captain of the Colombian team.

In the second round, Brazil defeated Paraguay 3-0, thus ratifying the championship won the previous year in Santiago de Chile.

“The feeling is very incredible to be here in the South American Championship because unfortunately I could not be here last year in Chile and that is why it is incredible to be here in Colombia. For us as a group it is important to share with our friends and teammates and to see that the work we have done during the year has been worth it. I think it is important that the University contributes with the tournament for the valorization of the sport and I thank it”, said Sofia Vallim, player of the Brazilian National Team.

On the initial day the visitors had the opportunity to get to know the UIS campus and in turn praised the facilities and the treatment received so far.

“The facilities for this championship are very good, the field is nice to play good volleyball. It seems to me that the University is very technological and gives a plus to this championship by lending its facilities and that they are in good conditions”, José Gregorio Milla, coach of the Peruvian Women’s National Team.

These games are organized by the South American Sports Council (Consude) and it is the fourth time that Colombia is the host, after Medellin in 2006 and 2016 and Bogota in 2011.
