On February 3, the 2025-1 academic period officially begins and during the vacation break, maintenance, painting, cleaning and conditioning works were carried out on the facades of academic buildings, classrooms, entrances to the institution, sports arenas, among other places, so that the university community can find a renovated campus.
“About 70 people worked on the restoration of academic buildings such as Mechanics, Camilo Torres classrooms, Jorge Bautista Vesga, and also the portico of the 27th, the facade of the Luis A. Calvo auditorium, the restoration of the monument of the Geometry Lesson, among others,” said César Florez Acevedo, general services supervisor of the UIS Physical Plant Division.
The maintenance work was also extended to other metropolitan sites, such as the one located in Mesón de Los Búcaros, the Health Faculty and the extra-mural site of the Language Institute.
“In Student Welfare we wanted to intervene so that there is more light, a place with more life, so that students feel in an optimal space and in excellent conditions because it is a place where they live most of the time. We also worked in other areas such as the Industrial, Civil and Music buildings,” said Roger Rueda Sarmiento, a professional from the Physical Plant Division.
The sports facilities were also painted, as well as the road areas to improve signage within the campus.
“All the sports facilities, such as the skate park, multi-purpose courts and tennis courts, were repaired and students will find places in excellent conditions for physical activity,” said Álvaro Vásquez Echeverría, supervisor of the construction group of the Physical Plant Division.
The UIS campus gradually welcomes back the entire community, as happened last January 16 with the return of administrative staff. Next week there will be an induction day for first-time students and classes for the 2025-1 academic year will begin on February 3.
