On March 26 and 27, 2025, the II Encounter ‘Song, Creation and Territory’ will be held at the Enrique Dacarett Auditorium of the School of Industrial and Business Studies of the Universidad Industrial de Santander, UIS, aimed at students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Music, which aims to open an academic space for students to test their skills in arrangements, composition and didactic exercises, and is organized by the Program Sounds for the Construction of Peace, PSCP-UIS, and the Faculty of Human Sciences.

The first meeting was held in 2024 when the PSCP-UIS, with the support of the Research Seminar Co-Libris of the Faculty of Human Sciences, led the collective creation of songs composed by children, adolescents and young people with the advice of trainers and experts who belong to Zone 7 of the PSCP. At that time, 177 songs were received and 18 were chosen by a jury of professional musicians and arrangers.

Sandra Natalia Sánchez Ramírez, researcher at Sonidos para la Construcción de Paz – UIS, said that one song was chosen for each PSCP-UIS Node (18 Nodes in total) “in order to make visible the different rhythms, tonalities and themes present in the departments of Santander, Norte de Santander, south of Bolívar and Cesar where the Program operates”.

The 18 selected songs were released in 2024 during the IV Meeting of Literature and Music, organized by the Co-Libris Research Semillero in alliance with the PSCP-UIS. From there came the idea of a new version of the Meeting, which seeks to show the music that is being made in the territories and give the opportunity to students of the Bachelor of Music at UIS to participate in a space in which they imagine, pose pedagogical problems with the songs created, and propose didactic alternatives of arrangements or games with these melodies.

“This is a great opportunity for the students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Music to test the knowledge they have acquired, because they will be able to put on paper what they have learned about arrangements, composition and didactic exercises. In addition, they will have the opportunity to acquire new knowledge about music pedagogy and didactics,” said the

researcher. Sánchez Ramírez, who added that the students who attend will be able to participate as arrangers of the pedagogical booklet that will be produced with the material resulting from the Meeting, a publication that will reach the children, adolescents and young people of the 99 municipalities that are part of Sonidos para la Construcción de Paz (Sounds for the Construction of Peace).

During the two days of the event, which will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 m. and from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., the participants will have training spaces such as a talk with the Argentinean maestro Aníbal García, director of the Choir of the National University of Río Negro and General Coordinator of the Choral Program of the UNRN in Argentina, who will address the topic of working with children’s choirs and choral arrangements with children.

Likewise, with the help of the professionals of the PSCP-UIS Dynamizing Board, the attendees will learn about the 18 selected songs, as well as listen to the experiences and what it means to think and work in a musical project as big as Sounds for the Construction of Peace, which is reaching more than 50 thousand children, young people and adolescents in northeastern Colombia.

Music Degree students who wish to participate in the II Encounter ‘Song, Creation and Territory’ will have academic permission to attend the event and can register for free at the following link: https://forms.gle/4wxiXHA4MfTanPw68
