Carolina Vargas Porras, a tenured professor attached to the UIS School of Nursing, School of Health, officially received her doctoral degree in Nursing and Health a program accredited by the University of Barcelona and Rovira i Virgili University, last Friday.
The Auditorio Graus of the Universitat Rovira I Virgili also awarded her doctoral thesis with qualifications such as Excellent Cum Laude, this for being presented in a compendium format of articles and obtaining the maximum qualification from the tribunal in its defense; Outstanding Cum Laude, the highest recognition in a doctoral thesis; and International Doctoral Mention, for being evaluated by international experts, fulfilling all the requirements.
The doctoral thesis is entitled: “Effectiveness of the AMACOMPRI nursing intervention in the process of becoming a mother in first-time mothers”. This study was directed by Dr. María Inmaculada de Molina Fernández and Dr. Carme Ferré Grau, professors in the Department of Nursing at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Tarragona, Spain.
This is a new contribution to the advancement of nursing disciplinary knowledge based on Ramona Mercer’s mid-range theory, as well as scientific evidence for applied research. On the other hand, the results of the doctoral thesis have been published in several scientific articles to raise awareness to improve postpartum care and provide support to mothers in their overall health and environment.
The UIS professor highlighted, through a message of gratitude, the people who were part of this research: “I want to thank God, my family, for the Universite Rovira I Virgili and my alma mater, the Universidad Industrial de Santander; they were my unconditional support during this process. I also cannot leave aside the School of Nursing, which allowed me this opportunity to pursue my doctoral studies. Finally, to all the academic institutions, professors, experts, universities, and even the people who gave me that little grain of sand, thank you”.
