The coordinator of Universidad Industrial de Santander, Sede Málaga, Deicy Dalila Delgado Diaz, together with the forestry engineer and professor, Diego Suescún, are present at this event, standing out as speakers and moderators at the working tables related to formal education and the CIDEA-Interinstitutional Committee for Environmental Education.
“Participating in these spaces allows us to interact with the different actors that are part of the social fabric to co-construct concrete actions for the conservation of the Almorzadero Paramo. It is worth mentioning that on this occasion we were invited to be part of the panel of the contextualization of the problem, and it is due to the presence of the UIS through research and extension projects that have been leading in recent years in the region, oriented towards the protection of species of flora and fauna such as the frailejones and the condor of the paramo” said the Coordinator of the UIS Malaga, Deicy Delgado.
Professor Diego Suescún, who participated in the panel on “Problems and alternatives of the El Almorzadero Paramo” pointed out that there is a lack of coordination between the territorial entities and the actors of the territory, as well as phenomena such as climate change, the lack of environmental awareness and the extension of the agricultural and livestock frontier that affect this type of ecosystems.
“In the framework of the panel we also highlighted that, in the face of this scenario, from the UIS we have been working on research projects analyzing soil erosion and how it is contaminated when we change the coverage to crops and pastures. Likewise, we highlight the work of the professors of Zootechnics who are implementing pasture management for high mountain pastures to ensure sustainable livestock. The Academy has also conducted research on Condor and restoration issues, among other topics.
