With the presentation of the artistic groups of the Universidad Industrial de Santander, this Saturday the 77 years of institutional life will be commemorated. The event will begin at 5:00 p.m. at the Luis A. Calvo Auditorium.

March 1, 1948 marked a before and after in the history of national education. On that day the UIS began operations, an institution that to date is one of the most outstanding for its academic quality and growth in different areas.

After three attempts in the forties, the University was created by the Departmental Assembly, according to Ordinance No. 30 of December 9, 1947. The following year, on March 1, it officially began its work.

Under the rector’s administration of engineer Nicanor Pinzón Neira, and with the help of three professors, the University welcomed the first twenty students who entered the Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Chemical Engineering programs, directed by Hernando Pardo Ordóñez, Alfonso Penagos Mantilla and Lelio Martínez Villalba, respectively.

This is why next Saturday, March 1st, the living arts will be present thanks to the artistic talent of the cultural groups, who will perform starting at 5:00 p.m. at the Luis A. Calvo Auditorium. Admission is free.

Meanwhile, the hashtag #UIS77Años was created on social networks for anyone to post their best memories of the UIS on Saturday and thus express the pride they have for the institution.

The commemoration will continue on Monday, March 3 at 7:00 a.m. at the entrance of the 27th race of the central campus with a flag raising in which members of the university community will participate.
