In October Bucaramanga will host the Ascún National Games after 15 years and the sports venues of the Universidad Industrial de Santander will receive different disciplines of the most important competitions of university sports.
For this reason, progress is being made in the remodeling of the UIS Diamond, where the rugby and ultimate (flying disc) competitions will be held. The drainage and physical conditioning areas have been improved, three warehouses are being built for the storage of sports equipment, the infield was adapted and the lighting was reinforced.
“I am proud to help with my labor so that my colleagues who play sports feel good in their activities and do not have any risk,” said José Adonai Ávila Reyes, master builder, who has been one of the leaders in the work.
At the site, Rector Hernán Porras Díaz presented the progress of the remodeling to coaches, students of the Sports Selections and members of the Physical Education and Sports Department.
“As captain, it is gratifying because the field was in poor condition and now it is very useful for our preparation for the Ascún Nationals,” said María Juliana Rodríguez Zambrano, player of the Women’s Flying Disc National Team.
This multipurpose scenario has been highlighted for receiving rugby matches, a sport that has given medals to the UIS in national competitions, as it happened recently in the female branch with the gold in Cali and the silver in Bogota, in addition to the bronze in the capital of Valle thanks to the men’s team.
“The state of the field had deteriorated, we were lacking warehouses to store the implements and now we are left with a field in perfect condition to train safely and this helps to grow athletically with easier logistics for both field training and weightlifting,” said Erwin Fernandez Rico, coach of the Rugby Team.
For the moment the work will continue to finish the rest and thus continue the preparation for the National University Games Ascun.
