With students from the ninth grade of the Industrial Technical Institute “Emeterio Duarte”, the Universidad Industrial de Santander – Sede Málaga started a new season of the “Reading Club”, in partnership with educational institutions in the region.
Through this program, it seeks to contribute to the reading habit of students with an impact on the strengthening of reading and critical thinking. “These initiatives contribute to the development of life skills, providing a comprehensive contribution to the student community,” explained Martha Liliana Toscano, psychopedagogist at the UIS Malaga Campus.

For her part, Yolanda Pacheco, teacher of the Instituto Técnico Industrial and counselor of the subject “Language and Critical Reading”, highlighted the importance of the ‘Reading Club’ as a way to get out of the routine. “Fabulous the first work we did with the students. I love it and hopefully the UIS can continue with this project in all schools since nowadays many young people do not feel affinity for reading and are more connected to the cell phone and social networks, so this type of initiative motivates them to get closer to books.”
Jezabel Chacón, a student in grade 9-3, highlighted that reading comprehension plays a very important role in all fields contributing to their academic formation. “It is very important to learn to read well and understand what the letters transmit in order to obtain concrete answers,” said Jezabel.

The “Reading Club” also works in articulation with the library, providing accompaniment in the analysis of texts. “It is a very enriching process, as it helps students to strengthen their thinking and critical analysis,” said Luz Nidia Ruda, librarian of the UIS Malaga Campus.
It should be noted that students from different semesters of the Forestry Engineering, Zootechnics and engineering programs of the common basic cycle are also part of this initiative. Each week, they meet to reflect and discuss various texts, enriching their professional and personal training.
