In order to socialize the Iberoamerican School of XPS and strengthen academic and scientific cooperation ties, the Surflab UIS group visited the Malaga Campus of the Universidad Industrial de Santander.
During the day, experiences and projections related to the lines of research developed by this outstanding group were shared, seeking to articulate with the seedlings and research groups of the headquarters.
Students and teachers of programs such as Forestry Engineering, Animal Husbandry and engineering of the Common Basic Cycle, actively participated in this initiative, highlighting the valuable contributions that Surflab can offer in the formulation and development of research projects and graduate work.
This program is supported by the Vice Rector’s Office for Research and Extension (VIE), the Surface Science Laboratory and the Catalysis Research Center of the UIS, entities that support the strengthening of research in the regions.

In addition, in August, ten students and professors from the Campus will participate in the academic event that will be led by Surflab in the city of Bucaramanga, thus consolidating a bridge of training and exchange of knowledge between the university community of the region and the research team of the University.
Sergio Andrés Rincón, professional of the VIE and the Laboratory of Surface Science, pointed out that through “Surflab UIS in your Headquarters” also seeks to identify the lines of research that are being led from the regional headquarters of the UIS, and thus review how from this laboratory these projects can be potentiated.
“The participants were very dynamic. We reviewed how Surflab can support topics related to Forestry Engineering, Animal Husbandry and Common Basic Cycle engineering. The audience was very receptive, asked several questions and showed great interest in the information shared. We saw a great motivation to attend the XPS event to be held next August in Bucaramanga,” he said.

For his part, Felipe Daza, member of the Surflab organizing committee, added that the objective is to achieve an active participation of students and teachers of the different research seedbeds in the XPS event.
“We want students and professors from different research groups to be able to participate in the XPS event, so that they become visible in international scenarios and promote the scientific dissemination of the projects led from the regions”.
The Chemistry professor, Katherine Montañez, highlighted the importance of the event and its positive impact on the students, since it allows them to know first-hand all the tools offered by the UIS to perform analysis, process samples and develop their degree projects. “This type of space opens up a range of opportunities for them to strengthen their academic and research projects,” he said.

Finally, Karen Victoria Mantilla, a student of the Zootechnics program, highlighted the value of the meeting.“I found it very interesting to learn about the research and extension part of the University, because it allows us to better inform ourselves about the tools we have at our disposal to start our theses and other projects.”
These types of spaces strengthen the connection between the institutional research groups and the regional headquarters, allowing more students to access scientific tools, promote their ideas and consolidate their research training from the territories.
