The III Forum on Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Tourism at the UIS Socorro Campus, held at the Antonia Santos Bicentennial Public Library, brought together experts, academics, students and members of the community to reflect on the conservation of cultural heritage and its role in the sustainable development of the regions.
During the day, various presentations and panels were held to discuss responsible practices for tourism, conservation strategies and the relevance of built heritage in cultural identity. Attendees also had the opportunity to interact with the speakers, generating dialogue and discussion on the integration of tourism and the care of the historical and natural environment.
“These forums have sought to generate awareness about the value of Socorro and the region as an integral heritage, focusing on our identity and natural environment. It is necessary to recognize our regional wealth, as well as to promote tourism that is sustainable and regenerative, respectful of the environment, and that also integrates innovation and technology as key tools for its development,” said Silvia Estella Rugeles, president of Fundación Socorranos en Acción and organizer of the event. She also added that with the three versions of the Forum, the goal is to build a vision for the future in which tourism is not only a source of income, but also an engine for the preservation of the legacy and welfare of the community”.
The day, which encouraged academic and local participation, called for continued strengthening of initiatives that combine respect for tradition with a commitment to balanced development.
