Professor German Zafra and event researchers

Professor Germán Zafra, from the School of Microbiology, participated as a keynote speaker in the International Symposium on Biotechnology: transforming science into solutions, held at the Center for Applied Biotechnology Research, National Polytechnic Institute – IPN. Tlaxcala, Mexico.

The research entitled “Multiomic strategies in the study of the ecology and mechanisms of microbial degradation of asphaltenes” was aimed at studying variations at the taxonomic and functional levels and in gene expression profiles in microbial populations involved in the degradation of heavy crude oils and asphaltenes, using omics tools.

The study involved professors and researchers from the School of Microbiology of the UIS, State University of Campinas – UNICAMP (Brazil) and the University of Santander UDES, as well as students of Microbiology and Bioanalysis and of the Master’s Degree in Microbiology of the UIS.
