More UIS students have access to the benefit of university residences

Meeting of Student Welfare directives with the new residence hall beneficiaries.

The Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) continues to expand access to the university residence service. This semester, 11 men and 9 women join the list of beneficiaries, consolidating this program as a fundamental support for students who need safe and adequate accommodation during their academic training.

“For this 2024-1 period, 4 quotas were initially allocated for men and 9 for women. As we still have availability and thanks to Agreement 038 of 2024, which allows reallocations, 7 additional quotas were granted to male students, benefiting them for one academic semester,” explained Liliana Xiomara Moreno Solano, coordinator of Comprehensive Health and Psychosocial Development Services of Student Welfare.

The new beneficiaries thanked the university for the opportunity to have access to a safe and comfortable space, which allows them to focus on their studies and have adequate environments for rest and recreation.

“Receiving the news that I was assigned a place was a great joy. I immediately called my family in Boyacá and they feel much calmer knowing that I am in a safe place while I study,” said Gira López, an Industrial Engineering student.

Paola Anchicoque, a Chemistry student, highlighted the economic relief that this benefit represents: “It was like taking a weight off my shoulders because I will no longer have to pay for a room. I feel very happy. So far, the experience in the residences has been excellent. There is an atmosphere of companionship, and the housekeepers are very attentive to our welfare.”

The male students also highlighted the importance of this program, especially with the expansion of quotas and the opening of the new headquarters in downtown Bucaramanga.

“I had applied in previous calls for applications without success, but now, with the expansion of quotas, I finally became a beneficiary. The building is very nice and the study spaces are comfortable. This really motivates me to improve my academic performance,” commented Jhoan Suárez, a Civil Engineering student.
