More than 6,800 children, adolescents and young people of the Sounds for Peacebuilding Program, PSCP, of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Knowledge in partnership with the Universidad Industrial de Santander, UIS, participated in the second cycle of small and medium format artistic exhibitions in 41 educational establishments and three municipalities of Zone 7, formed by the departments of Santander, Norte de Santander, Sur de Bolivar and Cesar.
Tamboras, carrangas, cumbias, choral and symphonic ensembles, Andean music, vallenatos, porros and traditional music were performed by the small artists in different scenarios where they shared with the academic community, family members and the general community the results of the training process that took place during 2024 with the PSCP-UIS training artists.
Small Format Exhibitions
José Alejandro Navarro Claro, Territorial Manager of Node 7, Route of the Great Convention, pointed out that the artistic sample of the Enrique Pardo Farelo School in El Carmen in Norte de Santander, “was a success because the public was able to recognize the process that the trainers carried out with the students, in this case with the marching band and the composition of a song”.
Víctor Manuel García Bracho, student of the Luis Gabriel Castro School in Villa del Rosario, Norte de Santander expressed that he was delighted to be part of the show, he was happy and the best thing was that he did not feel nervous, but enjoyed the presentation.
For David Castro Montes, a student from the Santa Bárbara de Barranco de Yuca Agricultural Technical School in Magangué, Sur de Bolívar, the feeling he had during the presentation of the exhibition was one of confidence in what he had learned and he said that it was a moment in which “I felt peace, like the name of the Program”.
Medium Format Exhibits
To close the year-end implementation of the PSCP-UIS, the municipalities of Malaga, Ocaña and Sabana de Torres were the scene of medium-format artistic exhibitions, where the community of these territories enjoyed the talent of children, adolescents and young people who are part of the Program.
Angélica Mora Dionisio, regional director of Zone 7 of the PSCP-UIS said that “these spaces are wonderful because we can show the region how Sounds for Peacebuilding is being implemented in the northeast of the country. In addition, it allows us to see firsthand the reaction of the public that accompanied us in these events and the excitement of children, adolescents and young people to be on stage”.
For Edson Riveiro Hernández Díaz, Territorial Manager of Node 14 Yariguíes del Magdalena Medio, the importance of the artistic shows is that they generate confidence in the artistic processes carried out in the territories. “It is very valuable to gather in the same space so many artists and for the people of the region to know the musical processes that we have carried out in the different educational establishments of the region”.
On the other hand, Julián Morales Ortiz, trainer of the PSCP-UIS at the Santo Tomás de Zapatoca Technical Institute, expressed his satisfaction with the participation of the Zapatoca Wind Band, as it was their first appearance before the public as an official band. “Participating in this concert has been very valuable for the children, adolescents and young people who are part of the bands because they have been treated as artists and that is the beauty of the PSCP-UIS, which dignifies and shows students that music can be a path and a life option,” said the trainer Morales Ortiz.
As for the participation of the children, Óscar Javier Trujillo Serrano, flutist of the Yariguíes Symphonic Band of San Vicente de Chucurí, and Daniela María Navarro Vergel, lyre player in the marching-music band of the Emiliano Santiago Quintero School of Teorama, shared that participating in the artistic exhibitions was an “incredible” experience that allowed them to share with artists from other municipalities, learn from other classmates and make the bands of their schools known to the public.
Sounds for the Construction of Peace, PSCP-UIS, impacts the students who receive the pedagogical moments, their families and also the community in general as in the case of Johan Salazar, father of a member of the marching band of the Normal Superior de Río de Oro, Cesar, who said that “it was the first time that the band went to another territory to show their repertoire and that was thanks to this beautiful program”.
