Good news was announced during the most recent session of the Academic Council of the UIS, held at the Scientific Complex for Health and Life Sciences Research. The Doctorate in Civil Engineering of the Universidad Industrial de Santander was approved.
The good news came from the graduate coordinator of the School of Civil Engineering, Alvaro Viviescas Jaimes; and the director of the school, Miller Salas. News that had been expected since 2018 when the process to achieve this doctorate began.
“It is a process that the school has been carrying out for several years and that today, successfully, after this presentation of the Academic Council, we have already received from the professors and the rector, the endorsement for its creation. It is a process that will allow the vertical growth and the realization, research and empowerment of the School of Civil Engineering of the UIS,” said Viviescas Jaimes.
He added that, although “it has already been approved by the Academic Council, it is still pending the approval of the financial part by the Superior Council and then it will be sent to the Ministry of National Education for approval and implementation of the program”.
The Doctorate will have a duration of four years, will have 96 credits and will benefit six admitted students during each cohort.
This will not only bring benefits in the areas of academia and research, but also in the repowering of laboratories, as stated by Director Miller Salas. “The truth is that this is going to reach many regions, we will attract more scientists, hiring new professors, it will generate a milestone for the Universidad Industrial de Santander that there is already a PhD program in Civil Engineering. In addition, we will be upgrading the laboratories, the Álvaro Beltrán Pinzón laboratory is being improved, the truth is that good ideas are coming for the whole School of Civil Engineering”.
With its approval, this postgraduate course will become the first doctorate in Civil Engineering in the region, one more step towards academic excellence and high-level training at our university!
