Student Welfare of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS), launched the fifth edition of the newsletter “Estar Bien”, a space for dissemination that on this occasion addresses environmental welfare and healthy coexistence with animals.
This edition highlights the moving story “Darwin, Diana’s little hero”, which narrates the experience of a student of the School of Biology, who has overcome various adversities thanks to the company of her dog Darwin, more than a pet, her faithful friend and therapist.
The bulletin also includes a special report on the visit to the Environmental Education and Wildlife Rescue Center of the Corporación Autónoma Regional para la Defensa de la Meseta de Bucaramanga (CDMB), where the work of veterinarians, students and animal advocates in the rescue, care and rehabilitation of wild species affected by illegal trafficking or urban sprawl is made visible.
Another outstanding article is a reflection on the evolution of animal rights in Colombia, written by Andrés Peralta, UIS lawyer and Master in Human Rights, who presents a historical overview of this issue and its impact on national legislation.
In addition, nurse Janeth Rodríguez Medina, from the Coordination of Integral Health and Psychosocial Development Services of Student Welfare, provides key recommendations on how to act in the event of aggression by a pet.
Finally, readers can meet the Social Work team of Bienestar Estudiantil, access hotlines and discover practical tips to reduce stress and strengthen motivation.
