According to data registered by the Ministerio de Salud y Protección Social, 80% of the Colombian population prioritized within the National Vaccination Plan against COVID-19, has applied the first or only dose; 62.4% already have the second dose and more than 6 million people have applied the booster dose.

Minister Fernando Ruiz announced, in the last hours, the arrival of 855 thousand new biologicals donated by Spain, through the multilateral mechanism COVAX. These will be distributed throughout the national territory for the application of booster doses, as well as for pregnant women.

He took advantage of the moment to deny the rumors that indicated that, from the portfolio he directs, the end of the pandemic had been declared.

“We have never raised that, we are at the moment of the peak of Omicron, we will still have weeks of affectation. We believe that in two weeks the number of infections may decrease and enter an endemic period, as we had between August and October 2021. We are still at risk of a new strain or new variants, so it is important to continue to comply with biosecurity measures and, above all, to move forward with the National Vaccination Plan”.

Gonzalo Gómez Patiño, director of UISALUD, called on the Unit’s users and the community in general not to lower their guard. “One sees many people relaxed, in enclosed spaces without face masks. It is not about generating fear, but it is about generating awareness, because there is still a good number of the population that continues to become seriously ill. We must all take care of ourselves and the best way to do so is by completing the vaccination schedule, applying the booster dose and continuing to maintain biosecurity and self-care measures”.

He reminded that the unvaccinated are part of the most vulnerable group of people, as well as those people with risk factors who have not received their booster.

In the case of UISALUD users, according to last week’s report, out of 40 COVID-19 diagnostic tests taken, 24 were positive (60%). Among other figures, 98% of the people who started the immunization process already have the complete vaccination schedule.

In addition, 64.4% of the people who have completed four months after the second dose or single dose, have received the booster dose.
