The Universidad Industrial de Santander is currently in the search of a PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, with foreign language proficiency: English level B2, who will be in charge of performing laboratory activities in the framework of the project ‘Smart innovative system for recycling wastewater and creating closed loops in textile manufacturing industrial processes-Waste2fresh’.

Among the requirements, it is necessary to have more than 5 years of experience in synthesis, characterization and applications of nanomaterials and biocomposites in environmental remediation processes (preferably water).

Additionally, it is necessary to have knowledge in synthesis techniques (in situ, top-down and bottom-up) of nanomaterials and composite materials.  Knowledge of analytical techniques for materials characterization (BET, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermigravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy (IR) and UV-visible spectrophotometry.

Please note that the successful candidate will be required to perform the following activities:

To synthesize and characterize bionanocomposites of fique fibers and transition metal oxide nanoparticles.

To determine the best conditions for the scale-up of the bionanocomposites synthesis.

To evaluate the bionanocomposites synthesized at small and large scale in advanced oxidation processes, for the treatment of highly contaminated wastewater.

To prepare technical progress reports for the project.

To prepare scientific papers and posters.

To mentor Ph.D., M.Sc. and undergraduate students.

Resumes for the formation of the bank of eligible candidates will be received until Wednesday, January 19th. You can send it to giftex.proyectos@uis.edu.co with the subject “Ph.D. – Project H2020”.

The laboratory activities will be carried out at the UIS headquarters located in the Guatiguará Technology Park under the direction of the GIFTEX group of the School of Chemistry. The linkage will be by service contract in accordance with the internal regulations of the University.
