Along with academic, entertainment and sports activities, the University Sports Week will be held from Monday, February 28.

On that day, the conference ‘University, sport and health’ will take place, which aims to contribute, from the sciences of physical activity and sport, to the integral formation of students in professional growth.

“These two fields can generate positive impacts on health, physical, psychological and socioemotional well-being. To talk about university, health and sport is to be at the forefront in what is related to health promotion and prevention, where university students have great power in the medium and long term”, informed Alejandra María Franco Jiménez, professor of the Department of Physical Education and Sports.

The event will be held at the Ágora auditorium of the Faculty of Human Sciences starting at 3:00 p. m. It will have as guest speakers the experts Santiago Ramos Bermúdez and Camilo Andrés Villamizar Sierra.

On Wednesday, March 2, around the entrance of the Luis A. Calvo auditorium, the university community will learn first-hand about the UIS Sports Selections during ‘Exposelecciones’. Between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m., members of these teams will be informing those interested about the activities taking place there.

A day later and at the same time, sports skills challenges will be held, both in the Coliseum and in the multiple courts, while on Friday, starting at 4:00 p.m., there will be a danceathon in the UIS Coliseum.

On Saturday throughout the day there will be sports activities on campus. To participate you must register by sending an email to deportes1@uis.edu.co or call 6344000 extension 1143.

The program will end on Sunday, March 6 with the UIS Athletic Race. This race will begin at 7:00 a.m. with the women; after this it will be the turn of the men. It is recommended to arrive at 6:30 a.m. to have enough time to warm up.

Photo contest

Throughout the week there will be a UIS sports photography public tender. To participate you must send a photo you have taken on campus, to the email deportes1@uis.edu.co. It will then be uploaded to Instagram @dpto_deportes_uis and the three photographs with the highest number of ‘Likes’ will be awarded.

The award ceremony will be held on Friday, March 4 at noon at the Coliseum. There, the UIS Olympics champions will also be awarded. Photographs will be received until March 3. The Department of Physical Education and Sports, together with the Faculty of Human Sciences, are the organizers of all events.
