In the Aula Máxima of Mechanical Engineering of the Universidad Industrial de Santander, the launching of the inscriptions for the 2022-2023 contest took place, as well as the award ceremony for Víctor Rivera Fernández, winner of the UIS 2021-2022 National Short Story Book Contest, with his work entitled: ‘El Sueño de la Montaña’ (The Dream of the Mountain).

The book gathers experiences lived for years in the different mountains of Colombia, in the central mountain range, mainly in the department of Cauca and Nariño, through images and metaphors in a sequence of 40 poems where I express the relationship between humans and nature,” said Rivera Fernandez.

The new call for the XVI National Short Story Book Contest was launched during the award ceremony and will be open to the entire UIS community and the general public, according to Agreement No. 053 of 2022 of the Academic Council, in which all Colombian writers of legal age may participate, with an unpublished work that is not competing in other competitions.

“We invite from the Cultural Direction to the entire UIS community and the community, in general, to participate in this new call. The contest was born in 2005 with the initiative to promote literary creation, so if you have a work that you have worked on and do not know the potential it has, we invite you to bring it in person or you can send it by cash on delivery, “said Karyn Carvajal, a professional of the UIS Cultural Direction.

Among the requirements to be highlighted are:

The presentation of the book of short stories must be in the Spanish language, in letter size, double-spaced, Times New Roman font, size 12 points. The theme is freely chosen by the writer. These requirements must be fully complied with or be excluded from the contest.
The book of short stories must have a minimum of eighty (80) pages and a maximum of two hundred (200).

The jury will be made up of three people whose names will be announced in due course. The call for entries will be open until Friday, September 9 of this year at 15:00 and the award ceremony will be held in March 2023, as part of the activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the university.
