With a dossier dedicated to the second attempt to consolidate Bucaramanga, Floridablanca, Girón and Piedecuesta as a Special Industrial, Tourist, Educational and Health District, the official launching of the 20th edition of the Santander Magazine took place. The event took place at the Bucarica headquarters of the Industrial University of Santander (UIS).
“The magazine has always included a regional dossier, and this time it focuses on the second legislative attempt to create the Special Metropolitan District of Bucaramanga. It is a crucial topic, as there are numerous metropolitan dynamics that, in many cases, young people are unaware of, to the point of not knowing where each municipality begins or ends,” said Armando Martínez Garnica, president of the Colombian Academy of History.
In this edition, readers will find articles by academics who analyze different approaches, challenges and benefits of the project. The magazine invites the Santander community to reflect, question and propose ideas on the administrative and territorial future of the metropolitan area.

“We hope that this publication will serve as a basis for citizen discussion and for the inhabitants of Bucaramanga, Floridablanca, Girón and Piedecuesta to analyze and become generators of ideas that will improve our coexistence and ensure the harmonious development of the entire conurbation,” said Álvaro Beltrán Pinzón, former rector of the UIS.
Those attending the launching agreed that the topic addressed is of great relevance for the region. In addition, they highlighted the value of the articles that complement the dossier, which cover history, philosophy, art and literature, promoting a more cultured society and aware of its identity.
“I think this magazine is excellent. I have been following it for seven years and I have its last seven editions. It seems to me a very well structured and presented publication, which is worthwhile for more people to know,” said Diego Saenz, attendee to the event.
Starting Monday, March 10, the magazine will be available at the UIS University Store at a price of $60,000. Members of the university community will be able to purchase it with a 50% discount.
