The Central Library of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) invites students, faculty and administrative staff to participate in the reading club “Air Raid Shelter”, a space that this semester will be dedicated to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
On this occasion, the club will address the novel Suite Française, written by Irène Némirovsky, author of Jewish origin, whose work led her to win the Renaudot Prize in 2004.
“Those interested can access the Library’s social networks, where they will find the link and the QR code to fill out the registration form. There are 13 places available for students, 2 for official workers, 3 for administrative staff and 2 for permanent or tenured professors,” said César Acevedo Arguello, a professional from the Central Library.
The purpose of the reading club is to generate a space for collective reflection based on the memories of the war and its relevance today. “The meetings will take place from Friday, March 7, at 5:30 p.m., in the Thematic Cultural Room of the Central Library. These spaces are aimed at sharing the pleasure of reading and allowing each participant to express his or her vision of the work,” added Acevedo Arguello.
As a complement to this experience, two film forums related to the same theme will be held in March:
- Friday, March 7, at the end of the first meeting of the book club, The Zone of Interest, directed by Jonathan Glazer, a reflection on the limits of the banality of evil, will be screened.
- Friday, March 21, at 6:15 p.m., will be the screening of Under the Sand, by Danish director Martin Zandvliet, a film that portrays the harsh reality of young German soldiers forced to clear minefields after the end of the conflict.
Registration will be open until Thursday, March 6.
