The first National Council of Rectors of the State University System (SUE) of 2025 took place at the Ministry of National Education, bringing together the leaders of public universities across the country, including Hernán Porras Díaz, Rector of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS). The meeting focused on strengthening higher education and promoting academic development in Colombia.
One of the central topics was Education in Your School, one of the Ministry of Education’s main initiatives for 2025. This program aims to facilitate access to technical training programs for high school students, an area in which UIS has extensive experience. The university has already implemented this model with 12 rural schools in the region through the Technical Professional Program in Agricultural Production (IPRED) and with 2 schools in Floridablanca through the Technical Professional Program in Cultural and Creative Project Management at UIS Floridablanca.
Other key topics discussed included the Comprehensive Coverage Plans (PIC) and the Free Tuition Policy, Student Retention Plans (PTIES), and the Youth in Peace strategy—all focused on ensuring greater access and retention in public higher education.
Through these spaces for dialogue and collaborative construction, SUE reaffirms its commitment to a quality education system that is accessible and aligned with the country’s needs.
