Student Welfare of the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) organized a talk entitled “Combined HIV Prevention Mechanisms” to commemorate the World Day for the Fight Against HIV. During the event, key issues such as transmission factors, symptoms, current statistics and prevention strategies were addressed.

“This activity, in articulation with the UIS, sought to educate and sensitize the university community about access to Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Therapy (PrEP) and the use of combined prevention measures to reduce HIV transmission,” explained Eduardo Morales Blanco, coordinator of Gender Equality and Social Integration of the University Hospital of Santander.

The workshop emphasized the importance of proper condom use, highlighting its essential role not only in preventing HIV, but also other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). “It is crucial to remind the student community of the relevance of adopting responsible practices. Unfortunately, despite the availability of preventive methods and diagnostic tests, HIV rates in Santander have shown a worrying increase,” added Morales Blanco.

Attendees expressed their satisfaction with the quality of the talk, highlighting the clarity of the speaker and the usefulness of the information provided. “It was a very informative and dynamic session. These types of activities help us to combat misinformation and understand how to protect ourselves properly,” commented Juan Angel Rodriguez, Mechanical Engineering student.

At the end of the talk, the Coordination of Integral Health Services, attached to Student Welfare, handed out condoms to the attendees as part of the strategies to promote safe practices.
