After the ceremony in which they were sworn in to fully comply with their duties as UIS professors, the new professors expressed their joy for this fulfilled dream.
“For me, going from being a student to being a professor is a great pride because I have a great appreciation for the university, it was where I was able to complete my training. It is also a great challenge not only to help train new generations but also a commitment to all the professors who once contributed something to me throughout my education. To be able, so to speak, to give back to them what they did for me,” said Iván David Ortiz, from the School of Industrial and Business Studies, who at 24 years of age was the youngest professor among those appointed.
For her part, Hingrid Camila Pérez Bermúdez, from the School of Law and Political Science, said that “it is an immense and profound joy, especially to contribute to the social fabric, as the rector and the academic vice-rector told us, to be able to deepen not only from training, extension and research but from these three missionary axes to have a social and community commitment and to contribute from love, heart and hope to all the territories”.
Among the family members who accompanied the teachers, pride and happiness were also evident.
“I’m very proud because that was always my dad’s dream, to always be there. He always imagined being a professor, so I feel very happy for my dad and also because he can have more time with us, we can for example spend more time with him. It is super cool that my dad is now a professor at the UIS,” said Esteban Carreño, son of José Jorge Carreño, a professor at the School of Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications.
Mrs. Emilia Vera was another of the family members who could not hide her emotion when she saw her granddaughter Cindy Tatiana Daza Ríos, become a professor at the School of Microbiology.
“I am very proud, because my granddaughter was a student here and now she is a professor at UIS. I feel very happy and proud. This was my granddaughter’s dream and my dream. Thank you very much.
During the ceremony, Daniel Sierra, academic vice rector, reminded the new professors that “teaching is the number one missionary function of the UIS (…) You are going to accompany new generations that come with many challenges”.
Welcome, new UIS professors!
